Description of the project

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism of the Government of Myanmar was developing a project to improve the development of the tourism sector in the state of Kayah under the advice of the United Nations International Trade Centre (ITC). ITC contracted UNWTO to assist the Government of Myanmar in the measurement of tourism at the national and sub-national levels, with a focus on the case of Kayah State. UNWTO contracted Nagore Espinosa Uresandi to develop this advice. Description of the services provided by Nagore Espinosa Uresandi as an expert in tourism measurement selected for the development of the project:

  • Evaluation of the national tourism statistics system and the subnational system
  • A three-week mission to Myanmar to develop the following actions:
  • Interviews with the National Institute of Statistics, the Ministry of Immigration, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Commerce, the Central Bank, the Port Authority, Federations and Associations of the Housing and Intermediation Sector and the University.
  • Diagnosis of the initial situation
  • Provide training in NayPiyTaw and Loikaw to the Ministry of Tourism, National Institute of Statistics, Central Bank and Ministry of Immigration on tourism measurement at national and subnational levels
